Sunstone was born out of a new vision for tourism in Burundi.
Burundi lies at the heart of Lake Tanganyika, arguably one of Africa's most beautiful regions. Despite its beauty, the Tanganyika-Lake region is widely overlooked by the global tourism industry. We want to change that.
Rooted in nature and serenity
We have made it our mission to provide our guests with uniquely designed hospitality experiences that are rooted in nature and serenity. That shows up in small decisions rather than grand ones: thatch and local stone instead of concrete, gardens rather than lawns cut to the water, and rooms spread far enough apart that you rarely hear your neighbours.

Where we are
You will find us at Kagongo, on the R.N.3 Rumonge Highway, 59.4 km south of Bujumbura. The lake is at the foot of the garden and the mountains of Congo stand across the water — which is where the sun goes down every evening, behind the far shore.
Fourteen ways to stay
The property holds five villas, seven bungalows and our tents, from a canvas tent pitched on the sand to a villa with its own pool above the water. You can see all of them on the accommodation page.
We'd love for you to be part of our journey.
Come and visit us — or send us your dates and we will take it from there.
